Pedagogy, Land, and Consciousness
Land Acknowledgment
I, Ángela Godoy-Fernández, acknowledge the Ohlone, Rumsen, Popeloutchom, Tecuexe, and Gabrielino/Tongva, peoples as the traditional land caretakers of the Salinas, Watsonville, La Esperanza, Ameca, Jalisco, and Los Angeles lands. As a researcher, educator, and a first generation graduate student with privileged access to these geographies and their knowledges, I will always pay my respects to my ancestors, elders, and relatives and relations past, present, and emerging.
I want to grow the “No one told me this! Oh, fucking DUH!” category. Here, I’ll share the steps and strategies I’ve learned to approach academic reading more intentionally. Most of these things feel obvious once you know them but aren’t always explained. My goal here is to demystify the process and make navigating academic texts feel, well, pleasurable, because reading is fun.
